Rwanda, Safari, yes please! $100 down, it’s 6am and we’re in a jeep. It’s Tammy our American friend living in Ethiopia, Sam our tour guide and driver, Pat and I.
Sam begins, “Whoever is the first to see an animal wins…BOOM, I win”. An antelope stares blankly at us on the side of the road. Sam gets a call on the radio, elephant herd ahead…including a baby one. TICK. Sam says, “Lets go this way, there are usually some zebras here, watch out, there SEE”.
Giraffe’s chilling. Hippopotamuses swimming. Baboons climbing. Warthogs snorting. Water buffalos wallowing. DONE.
It’s been a solid day and we were excited to drive through bush, across plains and up the side of mountains. There are no lions or rhinoceroses in Akagera, so you can’t see all the Big 5 of Africa. We didn’t spot a leopard but we saw a stack of animals and had a great day eating cheese and salami sandwiches and getting bitten by mega flies.
